Shija Hospitals, Imphal and AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad signed an MOU on November 30, 2020 to perform the first liver transplant in Manipur.

He further said that Liver Transplant is the most effective treatment option for an acute and chronic liver disease (CLD) and it is the only available treatment option for the end stage liver disease.

The most common symptom of liver failure is the accumulation of the fluid in the abdomen, a condition known as Ascites Liver patients should be on regular follow-ups and undergo evaluation by the treating physician to prevent the end stage liver disease.
Few common indications of liver disease are Jaundice, Hepatitis B and C, chronic alcoholism.
Usually the CLD patients start exhibiting symptoms of liver malfunctions like Jaundice, Blood Vomiting, Ascites (fluid in abdomen) and Hepatic Encephalopathy (mental confusion).
The only cure for end stage liver disease is liver transplantation.
The damaged liver should be removed and a healthy liver has to be implanted in the patient.
