Imphal, March 25 2014:
The flag hoisting ceremony of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Chungkhokai Doungel was held today at his private residence in Sanjenthong.
Seeking the blessing of those present at the occasion and support of the State electorate in the ensuing Lok Sabha election, Doungel said, if elected to the Parliament, his top priority would be on generation of employment in the State.
Noting that thousands of Manipuris, particularly the educated unemployed youth, have been struggling for livelihood due to limited job opportunities, he assured that the State's prevailing scenario would be highlighted to the Ministry of Human Resource for special attention.
Speaking at the occasion, NCP state president MLA L ibomcha Singh revealed about threats issued to common candidates contesting in both the Outer and Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituencies.
Contending that unknown persons have been intimidating candidates, backed by six political organisations, through telephone calls since March 24 that they (candidates) either withdraw candidacy or face the consequences, the MLA called upon all concerned to refrain from such acts so that the people could choose their representatives in a fair manner.
Stating that the common candidates have no record about involvement in corruption cases when they held public offices, Ibomcha also charged sitting MPs of lacking transparency about Central Government fund provided to them for development projects in the State.
Prayers for the success of C Doungel in the election and speeches by representatives of NCP and other aligned partners marked the event in which CPI and CPI (M) were also present.
