Male student tries to strangulate lady teacher

In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old male student of Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Takyelpat tried to strangulate a lady teacher of the Institute while she was inside the classroom today.
The male student has been identified as one second semester student Leimapokpam Jhaljit of Maibam Leikai Liwa Lambi while the victim as electronics teacher Vijaya of Kongpal.
The culprit has been pulled by the volunteers of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and would be handed over to police for necessary legal action.
Talking to media persons about the incident, the victim teacher said that only few students turned up at the Institute after the end of Yaoshang festival today and so there was none to attend her classes.
While she was reading a book all alone inside the classroom, Jhaljit came inside the classroom to ask for a book.
She then showed some books to him, but he said those were not the books he was looking.
Without uttering any word further, Jhaljit suddenly grabbed her neck and strangled her with his hands.
She shouted for help and people in other rooms immediately rushed to rescue her, Vijaya said.
Another staff O Deben said that he rushed to the classroom when he heard a lady shouting "I am dying�I am dying".
When he entered the classroom, he saw Jhaljit strangling Vijaya, who was lying on the floor.
On seeing them inside the classroom, Jhaljit told them that Vijaya's husband had taken a loan of Rs.one lakh from him.
He even pretended to make calls to the Superintendent of Police (SP) on his mobile phone, Deben said.
As soon as the news of the incident was heard, some volunteers of DESAM rushed to the ITI and nabbed the culprit.
On checking Jhaljit's wallet by the DESAM volunteers, one ID card, ATM card, some Rs.500 notes and a condom packet were found.
However, Jhaljit refused to say anything about the incident.
It was also found that Vijaya's husband had never taken loan from Jhaljit.
Later in the evening, the DESAM called up the victim teacher, student's parents, Principal and staff of ITI for a meeting at its office.
The students' body condemned Jhaljit's despicable act and decided to handover him to the police for necessary legal action.
