Imphal, November 17 2013:
The United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) has clarified that Ningombam Thoithoi Meitei alias Thoi (36) s/o N Thambal Meitei of Bashikhong Bazar arrested by a combined team of Imphal East commandos and 40th AR from Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Dobi Lampak at around 1.40 pm of November 16 was a deserter who had snapped all connections with the party.
However, a press release issued earlier by the Imphal East SP stated that Thoithoi alias Thoi joined UPPK in 2011 through S/S Finance Secretary Birjit and was extorting money from the public, private firms and Government officials under the command of Birjit.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, UPPK Finance Secretary L Inaocha alias Birjit, while rejecting the SP's statement, said that he and Thoithoi had connections in the past.
But since the party signed an MoU with the Government of India and Government of Manipur, all connections with Thoithoi were snapped.
"Before the tripartite MoU was signed, we worked not only with Thoithoi but also with many other people like him", Birjit said.
Once the MoU was signed, all connections shared between the party and Thoithoi and other people like him were snapped.
With all communication lines shut, the party has no idea what these people were doing.
If Thoithoi alias Thoi was collecting money from the public, private firms and Government officials, it was at his personal for his own personal gain and his activities have nothing to do with the party, Birjit clarified.
Security forces, after arresting a man, should verify veracity of what the man told them, Birjit said.
He added that he was lucky to get an opportunity to clarify about Thoithoi to public for he was out on leave away from the temporary designated camp otherwise people would have been misled and see the party in wrong light.
