KVK Senapati wins laurels for State ; Bags best centre in Zone III

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, (KVK), Senapati has been awarded Best KVK Award 2012 for Zone III thus becoming the lone KVK centre in the State to have achieved such a feat .
The award was given in recognition of KVK Senapati's successful conduct of artificial insemmination in pig, Emu and Turkey rearing technology, Kiwi plantation, Automatic weather station, solar operated micro-irrigation system to increase water use efficiency, geo-spatial database for medicinal plants, soil and water conservation, food processing and appropriate technologies like mushroom cultivation/piggery for improvement of socio-economic improvement of women by converging the synergy of different funding agencies.
The award consists of a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh and a citation.

The award was presented to the KVK Senapati during the 8th National KVK Conference held at University for Agriculture Sciences, Bangalore held from Oct 23-25.There are around 70 KVK centres under Zone III including nine in the State.
Besides, a Centre for orchid gene conservation of eastern regional Himalayas with the support of Directorate of Science and Technology, Government of India has been established in the KVK campus that works on hybridisation and tissue culture multiplication of orchids for the benefit of the flower growers.
Addressing media persons at the KVK Centre, Heng-bung yesterday, President of FEEDS (the host institute of KVK Senapati), Haokholet Kipgen, who is also a former Minister acknowledged the contributions of the staff of the KVK in achieving such a feat.
He lauded the staff for wholeheartedly working closely with the farmers.
Highlighting the achievement of Orchid Research and Development Centre, (Centre Orchid Gene Conservation of Eastern Himalayan Region) of KVK Sylvan, Hengbung, Dr Dhanaraj Thokchom, Project Scientist-D said seven new species of Orchid were discovered by the centre besides reporting three new orchids to India from the region.
To its credit, the KVK centre recently introduced Sericulture among its fields of expertise with Ilangovan as its SMS.
Dr N Jyotsana also gave a power point presentation on the activities of KVK.
