Imphal, August 14The trouble torn Manipur has become a place for earning awards and medals of the security forces countering with the insurgents with 74 personnel of the state police force were among the awardees of Police Medals for Gallantry announced on the eve of the 63rd Independence Day of the country today.
The names of the 74 police personnel for police medals for gallantry were included in the list of 775 personnel announced for police medals for different categories along with three other police officers of who have been awarded in other categories.
The Centre made the announcement on the eve of the Independence Day 2009.As per the announcement at the all India level 11 police personnel have been awarded President's Police Medal for Gallantry, 68 police personnel President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, 212 police personnel Police Medal for Gallantry and 484 police personnel Police for meritorious service.
Even though Manipur dominated in the police medals for gallantry, none of the state police personnel included among the 11 personnel for the President's police medal for gallantry.
But, Kh Chandramani, commandant 7th Manipur Rifles has been included among the 68 personnel announced for the president's police medal for distinguish service while two more police personnel, Y Ashok Kumar, deputy commandant 7th MR and Jemadar L Ranjit of the same battalion were included among the 484 personnel awarded police for meritorious service.
Among the 74 police personnel, two superintendents of police Clay Khongsai and K Jayenta currently posting in Thoubal and Bishnupur district also included.
