Imphal, Aug 14 2009:As the Government of Manipur has failed to refund an amount of Representatives of student bodies of colleges and University jointly submitted a memorandum to the Governor today requesting for giving suggestion to the SPF Government on exempting educational related matters from the purview of curfew.
The memorandum signed by the student leaders of Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) and other student unions of colleges pointed out that imposition of general strike by various civil organisations and curfew by the Government has seriously affected academic interest of the students in the State.
Though there have been instances of exempting education from the purview of the general strike, there is no such relaxation during curfew.
Talking to mediapersons after coming out from submission of the memorandum, MUSU president Philem Ibosana said that the memorandum has been submitted in view of the disturbance in the academic atmosphere of the State and to draw the attention of the Governor to the matter.
He also informed that while the students preparing to go for submitting the memorandum at DM College of Arts, police commandos came and stopped them.
It was later on that SDPO, Imphal West allowed five student representatives to go to the Raj Bhavan and handed over the memorandum to the ADC of Governor.
