New Delhi, August 14Manipur Education Minister Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar on Thursday called on the Union Minister of Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal in his office chamber at Shastri Bhavan here.

After presenting a Lengyan to the Union Minister, Education Minister Jayantakumar expressed the appreciation of the Manipur Chief Minister on the new initiatives taken up by the Union Government in the field of human resource development.
He also endorsed the State Government's welcome on the introduction of Right to Education Bill being taken up by the centre.
While appreciating the introduction of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RSMA) which was aimed at expanding and improving the standards of secondary education � classes VIII to X at a total cost of Rs.20,120 crore during the 11th plan, Manipur Education Manipur informed the Union Minister of Human Resource Development of the completion of the preparatory stage of the scheme in Manipur.
Jayantakumar mentioned that Manipur was a hilly and insurgency prone state having financial constraints; school education was very poor; and there was shortage of 1000 lecturers in higher schools of Manipur.
To meet those shortcomings in the education sector of Manipur, the Manipur Education Minister demanded the Union Minister of Human Resource Development to provide additional fund in the form of special package.
Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal stated that Manipur had a lot potential in education sector and the literacy rate was also high in comparison to that of the whole country.
He assured of providing special package to Manipur for development of human resources in the State and asked the Manipur Education Minister to submit a concrete proposal early to the Ministry so as to enable them to expedite the matter.
