The four day long inaugural Manipur Cultural Festival 2006 organised by Kangleipak Inat Taibaang Maheikon (Kitam) and being participated by 35 cultural troupes has begun from today at Ningombam community hall in Imphal Wet district.
The festival was inaugurated by Art and culture minister Ph parijat and former MP W Angou as chief guest and president respectively while Additional Director (retired) of Education (S) Sh Bimolchandra was the guest of honour of the occasion.

Expressing hope that the festival would be able to contribute enormously in revival of the ancient art forms, the chief guest also emphasised that such festival need to be organised on a larger scale for which the Govt would be more than willing to contribute its mite in the endeavour.
Among others, the festival would have competitions on performances in pena, pung cholom, moibung (conch), tribal dances, folk song, nat sankritan, martial arts, maibi dance and wari leeba with the top performers to be honoured with certificates and cash prizes.
