A fierce gun-fight lasting nearly four hours broke out between personnel of Assam Rifles and MPA cadres of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) at Wailoi area of Khengjoi range this afternoon.
A spokesperson of the UG group claimed that tell tale signs could be traced in the conflict area indicating substantial casualties and injuries suffered by the security force.
Following the clash heavy reinforcement of Indian security forces were seen approaching MPA strongholds from many directions subsequently resulting in sporadic gun-fight till late evening, contended the spokesperson.
He claimed of two Assam Rifles personnel falling prey to MPA cadres when similar clash ensued at Phaijol area of Chandel district's Khengjoi range on December 6 morning.
It may be mentioned that complaints had been received from some village chiefs who alleged that mortar shelling by security force in pockets of Molcham and Dingpi areas had caused panic to the villagers enjoying pre-Christmas festivities.
