In a significant development towards resolving the chronic problem of Indo-Myanmar boundary dispute an agreement has been signed at the border town today for joint survey and constant interaction on the issue.
The agreement for joint inspection, repairs, restoration, reconstruction and maintenance of boundary pillar was arrived at after a two day long deliberation in the Directors' level Meeting between representatives of India and Myanmar at Moreh Trade Centre.
The meeting began with finalisation of details on the joint inspection, repairing and maintenance of border pillar dotted along the porous boundary supposed to be carried out in the 2006-07 period based on information procured by either side.
As per the agreement border pillars No 180, 183, 167, 171, 173 and 176 would be clubbed under border pillar 183 for the joint survey slated to commence from january 25 next prior to which border survey would be held on january 20 by clustering border pillars No 140, 141, 142 and 143 to BP 140.The survey's meeting point regarding BPs 2, 4, 7, 27(2), 32(2), 50(2) and 82 would be BP 2.other highlight of the meeting include 'zero line' marking in between BP 79 and 81, further discussions on unsettled boundary pillars and revision of digital graphic on India-Myanmar boundary strip which had already figured during the November 27-28 sixth Directors' Level Meeting.
The Myanmar side is informed to have conveyed to their indian counterparts for processing the digital graphic issue through diplomatic channel.
Moreover, the meeting was wrapped up with an understanding that constant deliberation on specific issue need to be sustained for an amicable settlement.
The Indian delegation in the said meeting was represented by Director of Survey (Shillong) of India RN Nahak, Superintendent of Directorate of Surveyor of international Boundary (New Delhi) CK Pant, Officer Surveyor (M&ArP) PB Das, Moreh ADC TH Chothe, SDC Ph Ibohal and Moreh SDPO while the six member Myanmar side was led by its Survey Department Director U Kyaw Swe.
