Unidentified gunmen shot dead a 45 year old man at Sora Mamang Ching five Kms south east of Kakching PS last night at around 9.30.The victim has been identified as Md Abdul Gafar of Sora Awang Leikai.
Police reports said that Gafar was gunned down after being abducted from his residence last night.
The victim received bullet wounds on the chest, stomach and thigh.
The victim's body was handed over to family members after post mortem at Lilong PHC's temporary morgue today.
Meanwhile, PULF has claimed responsibility for the gunning down of Md Gafar alias Huibi Gafar of Sora Awang Leikai last night.
In a statement, PULF Commanding Officer Bashir Lashkar said that Md Gafar was awarded the capital punishment for acting as an informer of the security forces and further said that Gafar had provided all the information which had led to the seizure of a large number of PULF's documents on March 13.Stating that all informers would be eliminated without any warning, Bashir urged the public to extend cooperation in tracing down army informers who are working against the interest of the people.
Bashir also threatened to take up stern action against Md Sahabuddin alias Mangi of Golapati on any given opportunity and therefore urged all the people staying in the rented rooms of Sahabuddin to vacate their rooms before April 5 to avoid getting hurt.
The outfit has all the evidences to prove the corrupt activities of Sahabuddin, he added.
SFs strike it rich, many held: Imphal East Dist police arrested a suspected UG during search and cordon operation at Top Moirang Kampu this morning at around 10.15, said police.
The arrested youth has been identified as Sapam Pradip Meitei alias Khuman alias Ibungo (24) s/o S Lokendro Meetei of Singjamei Mongkhang Lambi.
During preliminary interrogation, the youth disclosed that he joined PLA in Jan 2000 through one S/S Sgt Major Mukesh of Khongman and under went two months training at Thangjing Chingin 2000 under S/S Sgt Major James of Thangmeiband.
Pradip is presently working as an escort of S/S Colonel James (Advisory chief of PLA).
According to another report, a combined team of Bishnupur Dist commandos, 11 Grawhal Rifles and II IRB personnel apprehended a suspected UG from Thanga Ngaram this morning at around 11.30, said sources.
The arrested youth has been identified as Salam Chandrakumar alias Polio(19)of Keibul Makha Leikai.
He is reported to have joined the outfit in 1999 through one Sgt Maj Tomba of Ningthoukhong.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Imphal West Dist Police, commandos, IRB and MR personnel conducted search operations at Lamphelpat, Sanakeithel and Thangmeiband from 3 am to 8 am today resulting in the arrest of a thirty seven year old man for engaging in UG activities.
Police said that the .arrested man identified as Pukhrambam Jiten Singh alias Romen alias Tomba s/o P Maipak Singh of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai was apprehended from the residence of Yambam Ingocha Singh during search operation at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai this morning at around 5.30, said police.
During interrogation, Jiten revealed that he is a member of the proscribed outfit KNF and holds the rank of project officer Imphal Town Commander.
He is in charge of contract works taken in the name of KNF in Imphal West area.
Altogether 1,100 males aged between 15 years and 45 yrs were rounded up during the operation but later set free after necessary verification, added police.
Troops of 4 Assam Rifles arrested an active cadre of the Islamic Nationalist Front early morning today from his residence at Lilong Mayai Leikai, said PIB Defence Wing in a statement.
The INF cadre is identified as Zakama Khan (18), said PIB adding that a 9 mm carbine, one magazine and 5 live rounds were recovered from his possession.
He worked under one Md Khan of Kwakta, added the statement.
