AR and Manipur University NE webinar held

HQ-IGAR (South) under the aegis of DGAR hosted the Inaugural Assam Rifles and Manipur University Webinar on 12 May.
The webinar was conducted on the theme "North East Beyond Insurgency and Ethnic Divide - Aspirations and Opportunities with focus on Manipur".
Governor Dr Najma Heptulla was the Chief Guest and Key Note speaker for the webinar.
Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan, Director General Assam Rifles opened the proceedings highlighting the key aspects of theme.
The Director General also highlighted the Memorandum of Understanding between Assam Rifles and Manipur University signed on 06 March 2021 for establishing 'Assam Rifles Chair of Excellence' for a period of three years, said a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles.
The webinar highlighted the challenges in peace and developments in North East India due to of insurgency and ethnic faultlines with special focus on Manipur and recommended measures for sustainable peace and development.
The webinar witnessed distinguished speakers and panelists to include finest local intelligentsia Prof N Lokendra Singh, Prof K Ibo Singh and Prof Amar Yumnam of Manipur University with rich knowledge and experience in their field, Army Veterans having extensive knowledge of the region including the first general from Manipur Lt Gen (Dr) K Himalaya Singh, Lt Gen AK Sahni and Lt Gen P Menon, Ms Palki Sharma Upadhyay, prominent personality from National mainstream media and renowned author Jaideep Saikia.
The webinar also included special address by Lt Gen Johnson P Mathew, Spear Corps Commander, added the statement.
The webinar was heavily subscribed and well received by the top officials of Manipur Civil and Police, Assam Rifles, various think tanks, faculty and students of Manipur University and DM University, cadets from NCC Manipur and Sainik School Imphal, faculty of many national universities and media persons.
Such events are organised by Assam Rifles with an aim for discussions and interactions on topics of relevance to the North East region, providing common platform for stakeholders in the region to exchange ideas and views of each other.
