Bishnupur, July 16 2021:
Moirang Kendra Apunba Meira Paibi Ima Lup (MAMPIL) and kege Moirang Kendra Apunba Lup (KEMKAL) have appealed the Government to evict the "illegal settlers and encroachers along the Moirang Lamkhai to Moirang Laikhurembi bridge stretch of road.
The two organisations have also warned of strong protest if the encroachers are not evicted.
MAMPIL and KEMKAL visited the 1km stretch of the road today and made the above statements.
K Padamabati Devi, president of MAMPIL said that SDO Moirang had floated an order on February 16 ordering eviction of all the encroachers by February 23, however the said order has not been fulfilled yet.
M Shantikumar, president KEMKAL said the said stretch of road is a state highway which is just about 18/20 feet in width and it also is the main approach road to many historical sites in the area.
However, the said stretch has become very small to keep up with the increasing volume of traffic, he added.
The Government had also demarcated the area to be evicted but the home owners and shopkeepers have not been evicted so far, he added.
