Imphal, July 16 2021:
Anal Naga Students' Union (ALT), GHQ, Chandel on Friday submitted a memorandum to chief minister N Biren Singh through deputy commissioner Chandel M Rajkumar urging him to reinstate Sumpi Pekham as district fishery officer (DFO), Chandel.
In the memorandum, ALT president Pashel Kingson stated that fishery inspector in-charge and FFDA CEO Chandel Sumpi Pekham was given in-charge/appointed DFO Chandel on March 8.But after being made in-charge for not less than one month, she was reinstated to her previous position and a new DFO for Chandel was deputed.
But ALT has come to know that Sumpi Pekham is eligible for the post of fishery officer as per recruitment rules according to the court verdict dated July 6 in the "Sumpi Pekham vs the State of Manipur" case, it added.
ALT questioned why was she demoted after elevation for a brief period.
She was the senior-most officer in the Fishery Department, Chandel and she deserves to be promoted to higher rank according to her experience and service record.
She was fishery inspector in-charge and FFDA CEO Chandel for a very long time.
So, now is the time to promote her to DFO instead of deputing another DFO to Chandel.
Sumpi Pekham is a local officer and she connects very well with the farmers.
She is immensely supported by the fishery farmers in Chandel too.
People to people connections are required and Sumpi Pekham possesses that quality, it asserted.
The Anal body noted that her demotion is unfair in the eyes of the people and this will lead to demotivating the government employees in the years to come, while trust and reliability will disappear permanently.
Therefore, it would be good individually and for people of Manipur, if justice is delivered.
The employees deserve to be promoted.
They hope and pray that justice and equality will prevail in N Biren's good administration without any discrimination, ALT said.
