Four ZUF cadres held

A team of Imphal East commando arrested four 'active' cadres of Zeliangrong United front - Kamson (ZUF-K) from New Checkon area last night and recovered arms concealed in a hillock at Noney Part V.The arrested ZUF-K cadres along with the arms recovered were displayed during a press conference held at the conference hall of SP Imphal East.
Briefing media persons, SP Imphal East N Herojit stated that the police received a specific information at around 9 last night about the presence of some active cadres of (ZUF-K) involved in extortion and causing disturbances to the Indian Railway workers and transporters and people plying along the Imphal Jiribam road at New Checkon areas.
Based on the information, Imphal East commando team under the command of Mayengbam Roni Additional SP (Operation), led by Inspector Kh Henery OC Imphal East conducted a counter insurgency operation at New Checkon area, during which the four cadres were arrested from near the KR Lane playground, he added.
The arrested ZUF cadres have been identified as self styled 2nd lieutenant Duanthuingam Golmei (30), s/o Rakhupou Golmei of Goiteng Village Khoupum; self styled 2nd lieutenant Gaikhuongam Ruangmei (41), s/o Rangjai Ruangmei of Muktina village Nungba; private Tangambou Marenmai (45) s/o (L) Masingbou Marenmai of Phonglang Akutpa village Kangpokpi and private Jangailung Golmei (24), s/o Makudin Golmei of Muktina village Nungba.
Saying that the police came to learn of the arms concealed at Noney area for carrying out unlawful activities on further verification, the SP added that a combined team of Imphal East commando and column of 10 Assam Rifle along with the arrested persons rushed to Noney Part V at around 10 pm and seized the weapons.
According to the SP, the seized weapons include HK Rifle 33 along with a magazine, two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers and one Self Loading Rifle (SLR).
The arrested persons have been handed over to Porompat Police Station, the SP added.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East has remanded the 4 cadres to 11 days police custody till July 26 for investigation.
