The Manipur Legislative Assembly today condoled the demise of Salam Ibohal Singh, former Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from 28-Thanga Assembly Constituency.
The House observed a 2 minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed former Member.
In his obituary reference, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that Salam Ibohal Singh was a visionary leader who dedicated his life for development and welfare of the people.
He said that Salam Ibohal started his political career in the 90s and was elected twice to the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1990 and 2002.He was a Minister who looked after various portfolios like RD&PR, YAS, Power etc, the CM added.
The Chief Minister further said that Salam Ibohal was also a social activist who worked for the conservation and protection of Loktak Lake and Keibul Lamjao.
His demise is an irreparable loss to the State, the CM said, extending solidarity to the bereaved family.
Leader of Opposition, Okram Ibobi Singh also condoled the demise of Salam Ibohal Singh.
In his obituary reference, Ibobi said that Salam Ibohal was a true social leader who contributed in various fields for the development and welfare of the State and conveyed that his sudden demise is a great loss to the State.
Govindas Konthoujam and TN Haokip also joined the obituary reference.
Govindas praised Salam Ibohal Singh as a true social leader who worked for the formulation of a youth policy in the State.
During his time as YAS Minister, Salam Ibohal Singh took various initiatives for the welfare and development of the youth in the State, he added.
TN Haokip also praised Salam Ibohal Singh as a talented leader who worked for the State as a whole in his lifetime.
