'Native Flavours' to showcase Tangkhul cuisines on Dec 20

Native Flavours, a festival/event exhibiting and showcasing Tangkhul culinary and cuisines along with cultural activities, will be held from December 20 to 22 at Langei village in NongpokSanjenbamoflmphal East district.
With "Celebrating the rich lineage of Tangkhul cuisine and tradition" as the theme of the celebration, the three days festival will be organised by Langei International and Tourism Department, GoM.
Speaking to media persons at Langei village today, chairman of Langei International Telen Arunkumar said that the festival will be organised to promote the traditions, food, folk songs and dance of the age old Tangkhul community.
The festival also carries the message of peaceful coexistence and overall development.
He continued that the festival, which will continue to organise every year, will emphasis on other communities of the State to uphold each culture and traditions at each annual festival.
Speaking at the meet, Shangreiwon Multhou, who had engaged in culinary works at grand hotels outside Manipur, stated that necessary preparations have been made to bring in smoked pork from the hills, chilli and Shandong from Shirarakhong to give an exquisite experience to the people during the festival.
The chef continued that over 50 members are working hard to open nine food stalls for the festival while adding that recipes will be provided to those who seek to know about the Tangkhul dish served during the festival.
There will be opportunities to see how the dishes are being prepared in the kitchen as well, she added.
Answering to a query, she responded that the festival is genuinely for promotion of the age old dishes of Tangkhul but not for the purpose of making profit through the festival.
She confirmed that the dishes will be made available at affordable rates.
It may be mentioned that Langei village is a model village transformed by Langei International which also acts as a community centre.
