Imphal, August 14 2011:
The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has reversed its earlier stand of not covering the Independence Day function following a meeting with SPF spokesperson N Biren.
Earlier, AMWJU decided to stay away from the Independence Day functions following unnecessary harassment by police against journalists selected for covering the event which included re-verification and submission of residential certificates etc.
However, following a clarification from the spokesperson that the harassment resulted from certain misunderstanding and that Government regretted it, AMWJU reversed its stand and decided to cover the event.
While talking with Biren, Chief Minister O Ibobi called the AMWJU president and assured that no such incidents would occur in the future.
The Chief Minister also appealed AMWJU to review its stand, conveyed an AMWJU release.
