Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh discussed the power situation of the State with the officials of Power Department in a meeting today.
Chief Secretary DS Poonia, Power Principal Secretary LP Golmei, Power Department Chief Engineer N Sarat and 36 Executive Engineers attended the meeting, said a high ranking Power Department official.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the Power portfolio, directed the officials to find out the ways to control power loss during transmission.
Expressing concern over the loss of huge amount of money incurred by the State Power Department, which otherwise has the potential to earn profits, O Ibobi also instructed the officials to do the needful in this regard.
Power Department officials informed the Chief Minister about the positive changes being witnessed at Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar areas after the introduction of prepaid metre system.
The officials said that there is significant improvement in the collection of taxes with considerable decrease in power consumption in these areas.

The Chief Minister also directed the Power Department officials to upgrade the assets of the department in connection with the Government's plan of switching the Department to a corporation.
On the other hand, officials from Union Power Ministry, NHPC and Power Grid will arrive at Imphal tomorrow to acquire forest clearance regarding Tipaimukh Multi-purpose Project.
The CM is eyeing 20 hours power supply in a day.
