Imphal, May 14 2012:
Demanding justice for Loitam Richard, who was allegedly 'murdered ' in Bangalore last month, students of GP Women's College today staged a sit-in at the college's premises.
Speaking at the protest site, General Secretary of GP Women's College, Stephee urged the State Government to pursue the case of Richard's death with more seriousness in order to bring justice once and for all.
Denouncing the frequent incidents of crime against students and people of North East in major Indian cities, Stephee said people from other States continue to look down upon the NE denizens as the responsible leaders are not firm enough in dealing with the cases.
Demanding urgent intervention of the State Government in bringing justice to Richard's 'murder case,' the agitating students raised slogans against the racial profiling of NE students.
Negligence and delay in the case would only incite more forms of protest, Stephee observed while drawing the attention of the Government to deliver fitting punishment against the culprits.
The students of GP Women's College today cancelled classes and ceased all official related works of the college from 11am till 2pm today and staged the sit-in.
The pathological report of the post mortem of Richard is still awaited and the State Government has already deputed a police team led by an officer of the rank of SP.
