Imphal, August 02 2015:
MLA Th Shyamkumar has appealed to the Chief Minister and the IFC Minister to personally visit the people living in the downstream of Mapithel Dam who have been currently taking refuge at relief camps out of fear about possible collapse of the dam so as to allay their lingering fears.
Speaking to media persons at his official residence today, Shyamkumar said that it has been eight days since the people of Tumukhong, Moirangpurel and Itham have been staying away from their homes.
Even as IFC Department has ruled out any chance of Mapithel Dam breaking down, people's fear still lingers.
He urged the engineers concerned to visit the worried villagers and convince them.
The MLA also dismissed IFC Additional Chief Engineer Dhanabir's assertion that the Mapithel Dam construction work was delayed due to objections raised by people living in the
downstream.
While expressing deep sorrow over the Joumol disaster, Shyamkumar appreciated the immediate relief measures taken up by the Government.
