Imphal, April 30 2014 :
In the light of the general perception that State Govt dignitaries particularly the CM, lady CM, Dy CM and even the Education Minister were given a shabby treatment during the President of India's visit to MU to attend the 14th Convocation and Special Convocation yesterday, the State Government has today demanded explanation from the Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University on the lack of courtesy accorded to the highest authority of the State Govt.Although the State Govt had made elaborate arrangements for the visit of the President to MU since the last one month, the CM and his Council of Ministers were not accorded due courtesy on arrival at the MU Hall nor proper seating arrangements made at par with their official status.
In a missive to the VC of Manipur University, Dy Secretary (Hr & Tech Edn) Manipur, Y Dimbajit said that the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers were given formal invitations to the Tea arranged by MU at 4.40 pm at the Open Air Theatre of the University just after the Convocation function got over.
It is reported that no tea was served to the CM until a few minutes before the President was about to leave, prompting the President to enquire twice as to why tea was not served to the CM.
Similar was the case with the Dy CM and other Ministers invited to the Tea.
A copy of today's issue of The Sangai Express was enclosed along with the official letter of the State Govt.Further, it was also observed that most of the Additional Chief Secretaries/Principal Secretaries/Commissioners/Secretaries were not even invited to the important function relating to the visit of the Head of State of the country which is also considered as a deliberate act of sidelining the State Govt by MU authorities, the missive said.
The matter has been considered at length by the State Govt and it is felt that MU should take adequate measures to ensure that such undesired situations do not recur in future, the letter said while advising the MU to desist from inviting high dignitaries of the State Govt merely for the purpose of meting out inappropriate and even insulting gestures in future.
