Lamka, February 27 2013:
Police resorted to firing tear-gar shells today in an attempt to disperse women volunteers of the KSDC who were enforcing the indefinite public blockade at Tollen village in Chura-chandpur district.
Volunteers burnt tyres on the road and stalled traffic along the Tiddim road at Tollen village since early morning before the police intervened and fired tear-gas shells to disperse them, said a source.
Some hours later another group of women again put up roadblocks at Molnom village.
They were dispersed moments later again by the police who sounded an alert and position its personnel on vital locations.
Later in the day, women folks with sticks in small groups have again stalled vehicles for some moments only to be dispersed by the alert police.
Despite repeated attempts of the KSDC volunteers to stall the traffic, no untoward incident has been reported so far.
Incidentally, the KSDC had appealed the supporters not to resort to violence while enforcing the blockade that was imposed on the backdrop of its demand for a political dialogue to discuss the creation of a separate Kuki State.
