Womenfolk take Airport authority to task on drug issue

Imphal, February 27 2013:
Demanding that stern actions are taken up against the Airport authority staffs who are involved in drug smuggling, members of 14 women organizations and civil society organizations thronged at the premises of Tulihal Airport here and protested on Wednesday afternoon.
Around 50 members of the 14 civil organizations including All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), Ereipak Ennat Chanura Loinasilon (EECHAL), All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) and National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) forcibly entered the airport premises and carried out the protest.
However, additional police forces led by Th.Vikramjit, Sub Divisional Police Officer of Singjamei Police Station arrived soon at the airport and calmed the situation.

Later, five representatives from among the group of protestors were allowed to meet the General Manager of Airport Authority of India, Imphal whom they also submitted a memorandum.
The demands enclosed in the memorandum were to take up immediate action against the staffs of Airport authority officials involved in importing drugs into the state.
Today's protest has come amidst series of seizures of drug parcels from the airport in recent time.
