Imphal, July 14:
Calling upon all the people of Manipur to stand firm for unity, peaceful-coexistence and equitable development all over the State, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) has asked all MLAs and Ministers to stop playing communal politics for certain personal gains.
A statement issued by the UCM cautioned the people of the hills to be wary of the six MLAs and MP Mani Charenamei who have been notorious for forfeiting huge amounts of money meant for development of hill districts and welfare of the hill people.
The UCM called upon the people, particularly the hill people to be vigilant against such elements bent on dividing the people of Manipur who have living together peacefully since ages.
Stating that most of the MLAs sponsored by the UNC were once pursuing tickets of various national political parties, the UCM remarked that these politicians can compromise everything as long as they win elections.
It also noted that the results of the 9th Assembly elections clearly reflected the popularity of the UNC sponsored candidates.
It further reminded that in the political history of Manipur after its merger with the Union of India, the longest serving Chief Minister belongs to a Tangkhul community.
Asserting that the present political boundary of Manipur was not a gift of the Indian Union as was in the case of some Northeastern States, the UCM recalled the restoration of the sovereignty of Manipur after the invading Burmese were driven off beyond the Chindwin river by the combined strength of the people of hills and valley of Manipur ending the Seven Years' Desertation.
Taking strong exception to the practice of feeding false and fabricated information and propaganda to the people and playing communal cards by some politicians just to win elections, the UCM asked all such elements to give up their diabolic politics and to stop driving wedges among the people of Manipur.
