Imphal, February 07 2021:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Govindas Konthoujam has accused BJP Governments at the Centre and the State of playing with the sentiments of the Nagas instead of bringing a lasting solution to the vexed peace talks.
The BJP Government, he said, is eying only political gains from the peace talks with the NSCN (IM) .
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan, the MPCC president, who is also an MLA from Bishnupur AC said people of the hills and the valley were hopeful that there would be lasting peace when the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) signed the Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015 .
"People were hopeful that the signing of the Framework Agreement would bring an early lasting and peaceful solution.
However, as the BJP Government is eyeing only political gains from the peace talks, it is playing with the sentiments of the Naga people.
The Centre has not brought the lasting solution till today," he said.
As the Centre is not able to bring the promised solution till today, it is not expected to bring the solution any sooner, he said asserting that only Congress can bring a solution to the vexed Naga issue.
On June 30, 1986, Rajiv Gandhi had signed the Mizo Accord bringing lasting peace in Mizoram.
Mizoram is one of the most peaceful States in India now.
Above this, Mizoram had received a "peace bonus" during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government as a result of the accord brought by the Congress, he said.
Further, the Assam Accord of August 15, 1985 was brought by the Congress.
All these accords were results of the Congress' sincerity and dedication towards bringing peace and development in the North-East region, he said.
Govindas also alleged that the BJP led Government is getting the support of the United Naga Council (UNC) because of its false promise to the council to roll back the 2016 order which created seven new districts.
As it failed to roll back the order, the UNC had opposed Cabinet sitting at Kamjong district, he alleged.
Also, the Go to Village and Go to Hills Mission are only namesake without development and people should realise this, he said adding that the Congress would return and form Government after the next elections.
The return of the Congress will bring development and solution to the Naga issue, he said seeking public support.
