Imphal, February 07 2021:
Federation of Government College Teachers Associations (FEGOCTA) has resolved to take mass casual leave on February 12 and 13 if their demand for implementation of 7th UGC pay remains unheeded and boycott classes from February 17 onwards if the status quo is maintained.
Speaking to journalists at Manipur Press Club, today, FEGOCTA president, Dr A Pishak Singh informed that the decision was taken at the sit-in protest staged on Saturday at the conference hall of DM College of Science.
Seeking the intervention of the Chief Minister to issue the order for implementation of the 7th UGC pay at the earliest, he also sought support from the Government colleges to their demand.
Not implementing the Cabinet decision adopted on August 6, 2020 is akin to discriminating against the teachers, said Pishak and added "our image has also been smeared by making us resort to agitations" .
Continuing that the teachers never refuse to perform duties while protesting for their 'rights', he added that the federation took this resolution of taking mass casual leave and class boycott due to Government unresponsive nature.
He also expressed disappointment with the Government for attempting to foil their democratic protest yesterday by sending police.
"We were also the last to receive 6th Pay, " he said and added that the 7th Pay has been implemented in majority of the Indian States but the teachers in Manipur are still ignored.
Claiming that some teachers are even willing to fast unto death for their rights, he asked the Government to take whatever actions they wish regarding the teachers' protest.
If the teachers continue protesting, untoward events may arise, he warned and urged the Government to consider their (teachers) demand at the earliest.
