The State Government has released a sum of Rs 5 lakhs for the people of Senapati district whose homesteads and standing crops were destroyed by a series of devastating landslide last month.
The sum has been handed over to the DC of Senapati.
Talking to The Sangai Express an official source said that along with releasing the relief amount, the Government has also taken up some measures to deal with such disasters and the process of drafting the Manipur Disaster Management Act has been put in motion.
Simultaneously the Relief Department has been rechristened Disaster Management Department.
The source said that the relief amount of Rs 5 lakhs was released after the DC of Senapati district submitted a detailed report on the damages wrought by the devastating landslides.
According to the report submitted by the DC, the total number of houses completely destroyed by the landslides in Senapati district is 139 while the number of persons affected has been put at 839.Giving the break up, the report said that 70 houses were destroyed at Kangpokpi block, including 27 at Gopibung, 17 at Songpijang and 16 houses at Torebari village.
At Tadubi block the number of houses destroyed is registered as 69 in Phikomai village.
The agricultural land affected by the landslides at Senapati district has been worked out at 593 acres, with Kangpokpi block accounting for 418 acres including 25 acres at Songpijang, 257 acres at Keithelmanbi, 12 acres at Govajang village, 32 acres at Phoikon village and 68 acres (potato farms) at Keithelmanbi.
At Tadubi block 175 acres of agricultural land in Phikomai village have been destroyed.
