Imphal, August 06:
Even as Dr Shivinder Singh Sidhu was sworn in as the 18th Governor of Manipur during an impressive function at the Banquet Hall of Raj Bhawan today, Imphal woke up to a traffic jam and snarls on a scale not witnessed before.
All roads leading to Raj Bhawan were blocked and motor vehicles coming from Tiddim Line were diverted towards Paona bazar and Wahengbam Leikai.
This led to a never before seen traffic jam at the Governor road, which runs just behind the majestic Raj Bhawan.
Traffic moved at a snail's pace at Paona bazar, as the narrow strip of lane could not accommodate the huge volume of traffic.
The fly over construction added to the woes of the motorists.
Even as the motorists had a torrid time trying to make their through the traffic snarl, Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court PP Naolekar administered the oath to SS Sidhu at the Raj Bhawan.
In his message to the people, the Governor assured, "it would be my earnest effort to acquaint myself with the varied problems faced by the State and its people on various fronts" and added "it would also be my sincere endeavor to assist the Govt in resolving the problems and also in redressing the grievances of the people.
I will be accessible to them".
Acknowledging the difficult phase through which the people of Manipur are passing through, the newly sworn in Governor said that the problems faced by the people have to be redressed through collective and sincere efforts.
"What the Manipuri society needs is collective endeavor between the Government and the people towards bringing peace and harmony," he stressed.
