Assam Rifles celebrates International Nurse Day

Imphal, May 12 2021: 44 Assam Rifles of 22 Sector launched an all-female led sanitisation and awareness programme in Tamen-glong town around the Rani Gaidinliu market as a part of observance of International Nurses Day on Wednesday.

According to PIB (Defence) Imphal, the female nursing staff including para medical personnel of the unit reached out to people in areas around the town to spread awareness and assist them in the fighting against the devastating second wave of coronavirus.

The unit organised a mobile awareness campaign spreading message about Covid-19 appropriate behaviour among the shopkeepers and buyers in the market area.

The posters depicted the selfless service rendered by the nursing staff during the pandemic.

The female warriors spread the message about online procedure to register for the third phase of vaccination via cowin.gov.in.

The unit's nursing and para medical staff on this occasion planted saplings of hope and good health all across Tamenglong district.

The plantation drive witnessed many jawans joining the nursing staff of the unit in planting 2000 saplings to honour the worldwide nursing staff for their compassion and kindness in serving humanity.

The unit also reached out to the oldest nurse from the town, Meithonliu, a retired nurse hailing from Chabagan, Ward No 8, Tamenglong.

Born on March 1, 1948 she completed her nursing from Makunda Leprosy General Hospital, Silchar.

Later she chose the noble profession of nursing and joined government service on June 8, 1978 .

She retired from active service in 2006 only to volunteer as a social worker and help the society in hours of need.

The unit CMO and nurses on behalf of the complete unit accompanied by CMO Civil Government Hospital Dr Gracy, honoured her for her compassion, optimism and kindness.

She along with her old colleagues Khiukhemliu Gonmei and Asana Kamei together cut the cake on this occasion.

All three have retired from active service.
