Sit-in staged for inclusion in ST list

Imphal, November 28 2021: In support of the demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list of the Indian Constitution being spearheaded by Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur, Eastern Students' Club and Nongmeibung Women Development Association organised a sit-in-protest on Sunday at Nongmeibung Nambam Chuthek.

Some protestors told media persons at the protest venue that majority community Meitei/Meetei is now minority due to ever increasing influx from outside and hence need a constitutional safeguard or else the community would become extinct in the near future.

They also demanded the government of Manipur to send necessary recommendation for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list of Indian Constitution before the 2022 elections.
