Imphal, February 15 2022: The 14-day State Handloom Expo organised as part of National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicraft Artisans Cooperative Society (AWAS) Limited under the aegis of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, ministry of textiles concluded at Nilakuthi on Tuesday.

Cooperative Societies Manipur joint registrar O Jiten, who attended the closing ceremony as chief guest, emphasised on the need for value addition to the handloom products of the state in order to promote them further and increase their popularity.

Out of around 9,000 registered cooperative societies, only those related with handloom are the most active societies.

Defunct societies are giving an impact on the functional societies, he added.

AWAS president A Ronika presided over the function while Weavers' Service Centre Imphal deputy director HK Baro attended as guest of honour.

Several awards for new designs and highest production were distributed during the closing ceremony.
