Chakka bandh

As the Govt reportedly failed to respond to an ultimatum served on April 17, several Tamenglong based bodies have decided to impose indefinite chakka bandh along NH-37 in the district from midnight of May 7 .
The Tamenglong bodies have been urging the CM to facilitate commencement of Tamenglong-Khongsang road the construction work on or before April 27 .
Village chiefs, student unions, frontal organisations, women's organisations, VAC council, Chairmen Association and Land Ownership Action Committee had served an ultimatum in this regard to the Chief Minister on April 17 .
Activities of NF Railway construction would also be banned during the period, Secretary, Joint Forum for Transport Welfare, Tamenglong said in a memorandum to the CM.
Among others, the demand of the Tamenglong based civil organisations included stopping any attempt to take over the Tamenglong-Khongsang road by the Govt; the PWD to issue clearance letter to Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, GoI, BRO to facilitate commencement of the construction; payment of compensation to genuine affected land owners; handing over of the construction work only to BRTF (GREF) .
