Former chief minister W Nipamacha Singh, BJP MLA Col (retd) H Bhuban, Soso Horho and RV Ningthing today held a joint meeting at the official residence of Nipamacha and discussed about initiating a good will and peace mission to Senapati for bringing an amicable solution to the national highway blockade issue.
On the other hand, various parties and organizations urged the government to take immediate steps to prevent untoward incidents from taking place on account of the blockade.
The exclusive meeting, after observing the prevailing situation of the state and the blockade on NH-39 by the Naga Youth Front, decide to send a good will and peace mission led by Naga representative to Senapati and persuade the Front and other blockade sponsors to lift the blockade in the interest of peace and communal harmony.
The meeting also decided to appeal to the NSCN (IM) to help maintain peace and communal harmony.
Meanwhile, in view of the ultimatum served by the United Committee, Manipur, to the Central and State government to rid the national highways 39and 53 of blockade within 48 hours, the BJP Manipur Pradesh has sought the immediate intervention of the Prime Minister to clear the highways, expressing apprehension of a communal fallout in case the mass movement threatened by the UCM takes effect.
A memorandum in this regard was submitted to the PM by the Pradesh committee, according to party sources.
The All India Students� Federation has meanwhile chided the NYF saying the agitation should have been directed to the Union government and not to the general public of Manipur, the release warned that if the blockade is not immediately lifted, the AISF will initiate necessary steps to counter it.
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (I), Communist Party of India, Manipur state council, and Committee against Ceasefire Extension also said the Union government and the Government of Manipur are responsible for the hardships being faced by the people of Manipur.
a delegation of the MSCP today called on the Governor and placed various suggestions including prompt Central intervention, setting up of highway protection force and entry of vehicles destined for a particular area alone, in order to defuse the escalating tension due to the continued blockade on NH-39.
