Imphal, August 27:
The Youth Front (NYF) has suspended its indefinite economic blockade imposed on national highway-39 with effect from 6 am of August 29.This was announced in a press release issued today.
The release said the ongoing road blockade called in protest against the Government of Indias backtracking from the bilateral June 14 Bangkok Agreement, has been suspended temporarily from 6 am of August 29 in response to the appeal made by the Naga Hoho, church organizations and other concerned bodies.
The NYF, however, said it will not hesitate to intensify their future course of action in the event of the failure on the part of the Central government to maintain the status quo of the Bangkok Agreement and embark upon political dialogue to find an honorable solution to the long drawn Indo-Naga political issue.
AMUCO hails the decision to suspend the blockade temporarily and said that it appealed to Naga Hoho on August 23 and 24 to lift the blockade.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has submitted a memorandum to the Governor Ved Marwah to draw his attention to the grievances of the displaced Naga people now taking shelter in Ukhrul district.
The memorandum said 21,231 displaced Nagas (mostly Tangkhul) are taking shelter in Ukhrul district in the wake of the violent agitation and arson in Imphal, but the district administration has turned a blind eye.
It urged the Governor to look after the welfare of these people.
It further said as per record maintained at the student union office, there are 5273 displaced student, who have left their respective educational institutions in the valley and they are now seeking admission in their respective districts and elsewhere.
It urged the Governor to instruct the concerned authority for permitting the students to transfer from their respective institution as per their choices.
Stating that many Naga employees hailing from Ukhrul district left Imphal and other peripheral areas the memorandum said it is now a big question for the displaced Naga employees to return to their respective places of postings.
The TKS urged the Governor to make arrangement for the protection of their salaries in their respective district under special consideration.
