Oken announces education schemes

Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro has declared that construction of 10 school buildings under Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya scheme and nine other residential schools would begin next month.
The Minister announced that requisite funds have been earmarked for the said buildings to be constructed in both the hill and valley districts.
Speaking as the chief guest during the inauguration of a temporary school building under a specific project of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan at Khurai Sajor Leikai today, the Minister conceded that to achieve the cherished goal for education of all the Government needs public support and cooperation.
He also reminded that teachers will have to play the most important role of moulding the future generation through dedication and sincerity to the assigned tasks.
The co-educational residential school coming up at Khurai Sajor Leikai would be for the entire imphal East district, with the Minister also assuring that construction of a permanent building would also begin next month besides officially declaring commencement of classes at the temporary block.
Citing efforts of the Khurai AC MLA Dr Ng Bijoy in the materialisation of the composite co-educational residential school for the district at the same assembly segment, Okendro explained that inauguration of the temporary block was to accommodate students for the current academic session.
In his presidential address, Dr Bijoy conveying that the residential school would give priority on education of students belonging to below poverty level (BPL) families and destitute children, also clarified that the school is not for Khurai AC alone but the entire district of Imphal East.
While stating that education is the hallmark of a progressive society, the MLA nevertheless observed that in the present-day context academic excellence alone is not enough as an individual needs to possess skills in varied fields.
The function was also attended by Principal Secretary (Education) Dr Suresh Babu, Director (Education) H deleep and Imphal East district Deputy Commissioner RK Dinesh as the guests of honour.
