AIR, Imphal celebrates jubilee

All India Radio (AIR), Imphal celebrated its Golden Jubilee by organising a Folk Music Concert at Manipur Film Development Corporation auditorium today.
Delivering the welcome address, AIR, Imphal Programme Head M Kanankumar said that from its humble beginning with a 1 kilowatt transmitter station, AIR Imphal is presently serving the people with a 300 kw transmitter station having range to cover the entire North region.
Conveying gratitude to the artistes for helping AIR Imphal grow into a technologically advanced centre and pointing out that from 2002 onward a 10 kw transmission service in digital mode has been added to the station, he also stated that AIR is committed to preserving decades old recording of folk music and songs.
The programme Head also took advantage of the occasion to urge the listeners pay equal attention to folk music/song programmes with the assertion that no youngster ever approaches AIR Imphal to present folk songs.

Regretting that passing away of the present-day ageing folk artistes might lead to extinction of the traditional art form, Kanankumar maintained the AIR Imphal deciding to celebrate its 50 years of existence with Folk Music Concert is aimed at promoting folk music.
The concert was participated by folk musicians and artistes of different indigenous communities.
