'No listener of traditional music today'

In this modern world, the rich variety of traditional Manipuri music is gradually losing listeners, Moirangthem Kanankumar, Assistant Director (Programme) and Programme Head of All India Radio (AIR), Imphal has lamented.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the 'Folk Music Concert' organized by AIR Imphal in connection with its Golden Jubilee celebration at the auditorium of Manipur Film Development Corporation (MFDC), Palace Compound here today, Kaminikumar conveyed that AIR Imphal has been receiving poor public response, specially among the Meetei community, when it comes to broadcast of traditional folk music and songs.
However, tribal communities in the State have taken much interest in traditional and devotional songs and there is huge demand for broadcasting such songs in AIR.

"It times, I wonder whether the poor response from listeners among the Meetei community regarding the traditional folk music is because of its religious connection and content.
So, AIR Imphal is thinking of changing some contents in order to adapt to the taste of the youths if religious content is the main reason behind the poor response", Kanankumar said.
The concert started with Seihou Eesei by Pena Seisakpa Leibakmacha.
Afterwards, traditional songs of Hmar by Lalremsang Siechnam; Paite traditional song by T Neng Khopou Ngaite; Khunung Eshei by N Sanathoi Chanu and K Sorodhoni; Kabui traditional song by Saijungmeilu and party; Thadou traditional song by Dongkhojou and party; Khongjom Parva by Laishram Mani and party; Mao traditional song by Lossii Adaphro; Tangkhul traditional song by YL Philson; Pena Kao Phaba by Laishram Leibakmacha and party; Khullang Eshei by Meinya Singh and A Priyarani; Kom traditional song by Achan Sherto; Paomei traditional song by K Louno Andrew and Lai Haraoba by H Bhagat and party were presented one after another.
