Imphal, January 19 2013 :
Thanking the state government for declaring the 13th of Wakching (25th Jan) as state holiday for Gaan-Ngai celebration, Kabui Dharma Sabha Manipur (KDSM) expressed its concern over the "unfortunate" trends in celebration of the festival.
In a statement by its President D Lungpujei Kabui, KDSM pointed out that over the last past 5-6 years, some of the people have come to celebrate the indigenous festival on their own way ignoring some of the key rituals of Kabui community and not knowing the inner values of celebrating Gaan-Ngai.
This is very unfortunate.
Lungpujei Kabui further noted that during the celebration of Gaan-Ngai and social gatherings, some of the people paint "Tarang-Kai", an important script for Kabui religion at undesired places like parks, churches/ temple, gates and other places where they desire to decorate with the script without knowing its importance and significance.
However, such ignorance might led to diminishing the values of Gaan-Ngai celebration.
