Imphal, January 19 2013 :
Manipur Loumi Lup is set to launch a series of democratic agitations demanding water supply to the fields of Manipur.
In a press conference held in this regard at Irawat Bhavan today, former MLA N Mangi said, majority of the people of the State are dependant on agriculture.
However, the farmers are being left in such a condition that they cannot even properly do farming for one cropping season,
he said.
Although, the Government has commissioned major projects like Loktak Downstream Project and Singda Dam Project, the people are unable to get benefits from these projects, he added.
Apart from these projects, N Mangi further said, Imphal barrage, Thoubal barrage and Sekmai barrage etc are not able to deliver intended benefits to the people of Manipur.
He also suggested the Government to detect the errors in these projects so that adequate water supply could be provided to the people including farmers.
N Mangi also demanded that Thoubal Multipurpose Project and Dolaithabi Project be commissioned within this current year.
Demanding adequate water supply to the fields of Manipur, Manipur Loumi Lup would take out a rally which would be taken part by around 30 vehicles from Irawat Bhavan to Khuga Multipurpose Project on January 28 .
The rallyists would also make a spot inquiry of the project, he added.
Other agitations would follow on phase wise after the rally, Mangi said.
Loumi Lup President Bijoy, General Secretary H Ibobi and Working President S Nilakamal were also present at the press conference.
