Imphal, October 18 2009:
The proscribed RPF has greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba which falls on the second day of the Manipuri calendar month Hiyangei.
In a press release issued by its Publicity Secretary, T Leisemba, the outfit wished that the festival may bring peace and a secured life, free from all form of exploitation of the people of Manipur.
It wished that the womenfolk of Manipur may be able to participate in social issues of the State with vigour and commitment.
Noting that the lofty ideal of Ningol Chakkouba lies in the sacred bond of love between sisters and brothers, the outfit lamented that the festival seemed to be deviating from its traditional values with the changing dynamics.
It is a matter of serious concern that the highly significant festival of Ningol Chakkouba has taken a character symbolising materialism deviating from its spiritual values.
Observing that the Ningol Chakkouba brings tears to many women who could not afford glamorous jewellery and costly items, the outfit said that many brothers have also been facing great difficulties in buying costly gifts for their sisters.
The outfit exhorted the public to exchange gifts of love and blessings on Ningol Chakkouba instead of indulging in mad race for giving and flaunting costly gifts.
Wishing prosperous life to all womenfolk of all communities in addition to Meiteis, the RPF sought blessings of success from the womenfolk of Manipur in its liberation movement.
