Locals of Yourbung and its surrounding area today staged a sit in protest against the kidnapping of assistant extension officer of the department for tribal and scheduled caste on the night of October 14 last.
Assistant extension officer, Ningthoujam Chaoba (60) was kidnapped by some armed unknown persons at about 8 pm of October 14 from his own house at Yorbung under Lamlai police station in Imphal east district.
Sit-in protests demanding safe released of Chaoba were staged at Etam Nungoi, Litan Makhong and Yorbung.
Spouse of the kidnapped Choaba, Ngoubi taking part in the protest staged at Yorbung said that her husband was abducted by about four to five persons at about 8 pm of October 14 .
They requested Chaoba to go with them upto Pourabi to show up with an ailing aged old man there.
They also demanded to accompany a vehicle to Chaoba.
Responding to their insistent, Chaoba asked them to wait for sometime and hired a driver to drive his vehicle.
But, miscreants contacted over their mobile phone to come there.
Later, a diesel auto arrived there.
Ngoubi further said that as it was dark, she insisted to accompany her with her husband Chaoba.
They allowed to her request but convinced them to say going for show up to ailing man if security force intercepted on the way.
But, when they reached Pundongbam Lamkhai, they tried to leave behind her and carry away only Choaba.
They forcibly left her behind stating that they have to talk Chaoba on certain matter related with his office and assuring of safe release after the talk.
They further informed her that through her husband, they will contact with a responsible officer of the department.
Till then he will be in their captivity.
But they failed to release her husband, Ngoubi bewildered.
Locals also formed a JAC in connection with the abduction of Chaoba and appealed for safe release of Chaoba immediately.
The JAC also decided to lodge a complaint with the state chief minister.
