Jiribam, April 15 2013:
Two compartments of an FCI goods carrier train were damaged when the train derailed while crossing Jiri Bridge yesterday.
No human casualty was reported.
The train was ferrying FCI items from Silchar to Jiribam.
The engine side of the train could, however, cross the bridge.
Rotting of wooden sleepers of the track and damages caused to the spring and other parts of the worn out rail compartments were attributed for the mishap, according to an official.
Senior officials of Badalpur rushed to the site.
One of the derailed compartments was removed while the other remains in the gorge.
The railway line, being a narrow gauge, passenger trains have stopped plying along the track since some years back due to its vulnerability to mishap.
