Manipur turning into an educationally self reliant state

While appealing to the people of Manipur for their unstinted support and co-operation in bringing about a total change in the education system, Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro has asserted that of late Manipur has gradually turned into an educationally self reliant State.
Minister Okendro was speaking as Chief Guest of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Gandhi Memorial High School and inauguration of a residential school at Khomithang, New Lamka in Churachandpur district today.
The Minister stated that the Government of Manipur has been trying its level best to bring about a change in the education system and hopefully today we can see the beginning of an educationally self reliant Manipur.
He went on to state that the students of Government Model Schools have been able to secure positions in the State conducted exams.
The Gandhi Memorial High School which has been converted into Churachandpur Model High School should also try to bring out position holders in the state conducted exams.

The Minister assured that apart from construction of separate hostels for boy and girl students, a separate building would be set up for students of class I to V very soon.
Maintaining that that the State Government does not differentiate between a government and a private institution, Minister Okendro, nonetheless, stated that the State Government is trying to improve the infrastructural shortages in government schools.He also informed that the State Government is planning to release the pending salaries of the part time lecturers by April, for which a Cabinet meeting is to be held shortly.
He also urged the concerned lecturers to withdraw their proposed cease work strike.
The residential school which was inaugurated today in Churachandpur district is among the 11 residential model schools that have been opened across the State by the Government of Manipur with the main objective of providing compulsory education to all children under SSA.
The function was also attended by Health Minister Phunzathang Tonsing; MLA TN Haokip; Parliamentary Secretary Vungzagin Valte; Chairman of Churachandpur ADC Lunmgkhampao Guite, Churachanpur DC Jacintha Lazarus; ex-MP of Lok Sabha Holkhomang Haokip and Director of Education (S) H Deleep as presidium members.
