63rd Vanmahotsav observed in State

The 63rd Van Mahotsav programme was observed at Modern College today under the aegis of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Manipur.
The programme was attended by Khurai AC MLA, Dr Ng Bijoy; Principal Secretary of Forest and Environment, VK Thakral; Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, AK Rana and Principal of Modern College, Dr S Nabachandra as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Ng Bijoy said the event holds significance in this era of global warming while calling the people to plant more trees and to imbibe the culture of tree planting in the society.
He addressed the students community to take the responsibility and lead towards this end.

Around 80 indigenous saplings were planted in and around Modern College campus while also distributing thousands of saplings on the occasion.
Van Mahotsav is an annual pan-Indian tree planting event.
It was initiated in 1950 by KM Munishi, the union minister for agriculture & food to create an enthusiasm in the mind of populace for the conservation of forests & planting of trees.
