Imphal, February 07:
Atleast one or two members of the family in each household of Kuilong village in Tamei sub-divisions of Tamenglong district have been affected by the outbreak of an unknown epidemic that has claimed one life so far.
According to information received by the press here, the unknown epidemic with characteristic symptoms of fever, headache, stomach pain, nausea, etc has even spread out to other neighbouring villages like Lemta, Dumong, Makuilong and Illei.
However, in the worst affected Kuilong, a hamlet of about 125 households, there is not even a single family where the epidemic has not invaded.
Atleast one or two members in each family have suffering from the unknown disease.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, information and publicity secretary of All Zeliangrong Students' Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) NZ Achapbou informed that the unknown disease broke out in November last year and so far one life has been claimed.
Identifying the victim as one 39-year old Pouhot-dinbou Pamei son of Wuijanpibou Pamei, the student leader said that Pouhotdinbou died in November last before proper medical care could be provided.
The student leader further informed that two patients who were brought to Imphal in a serious condition are currently undergoing treatment at Catholic Medical Centre at Koirengei while another patient had been discharged from RIMS Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
As the condition of the roads in Tamei sub-divisions are not good and there is lack of health care facilities, villagers are living in fear under the shadow of the unknown epidemic which has also spread out to other neighbouring villages like Lemta, Dumong, Makuilong and Illei, Achapbou said.
While informing that there is only one Primary Health Centre at Tamei, he lamented two doctors out of the three posted at the health care centre have been transferred thus leaving only one doctor identified as Z Kamei who too is out of station at present.
Drawing the attention of the Government to the problems being faced by the people in the remote hill areas, he also urged for sending a medical team at the earliest possible.
