The 65th meeting of General Council of National Cooperative Development Corporation was convened on February 6 in New Delhi.
The meeting presided over by Union Agriculture Minister and NCDC president Sharad Pawar discussed and approved the annual report and accounts of the corporation for the year 2006-2007.NCDC's major thrust during this period was marketing and inputs, industrial, credit and service cooperatives, agroprocessing cooperatives, which accounted for 93 percent of total assistance.
The Corporation has disbursed a total financial assistance of Rs 6173 crore for the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura.
Speaking at the meeting, Sharad pawar lauded NCDC's achievements stating that the Corporation is playing meaningful role through liberal financing in the fast changing and competitive environment.
He further added that agriculture sector is very important for sustaining food security and for improving rural livelihood.
