Imphal, June 05 2009: Along with setting aflame the effigy of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, protest demonstration continued to be staged at different parts in connection with the demand to release the student leaders arrested by the police after the killing of Prof Md Islamuddin of Manipur University by KYKL.

On the other hand, Napet Palli and Kameng Khunjao DI/Jeep Taxi Service Welfare Association and Gwaltabi & Yaingangpokpi Road Transport Association have announced their respective decision to go on a cease work strike tomorrow in support of the ongoing agitation demanding release of the arrested student leaders.

Placards inscribed with slogans like 'Students should not be held responsible for the killing of Prof Islamuddin', 'Students should not be looked upon as UGs', 'Release the arrested student leaders', 'Govt should retract its move of abolishing student bodies', etc were seen being used during these protest demonstrations.

At Kongba Bazar, the protest demonstration was organised under the aegis of Kongba Bazar Nupi Lup.

The protestors also burnt the effigy of Chief Minister and raised the demand for unconditional release of the arrested student leaders.

At Heibongpokpi, students of Heibongpokpi Jr High School joined hands with members of Heibongpokpi Nupi Samaj Association in staging the protest demonstration at the office premise of the Association.

Lamdeng Khunou Taokhong Lamkhai Meira Paibis, Thoubal Bazar Sekpi Khongnangkhong Apunba Meira Paibis, Khongman Mangjil Nupi Lup, students of Cambridge Higher Secondary School at Khergao, Naorem Leikai Yaipha Meira Paibi and Heirangoi West Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Apunba Meira Paibi also demonstrated over the same demand in their respective localities.

Meanwhile, in a statement secretary of Napet Palli and Kameng Khunjao DI/Jeep Taxi Service Welfare Association Ng Chingkhei Meetei has announced that the Association would not carry out its DI/Jeep taxi service in support of the demand for releasing the innocent student leaders who have been arrested by the police in connection with the incident of killing Prof Md Islamuddin.

Similarly, secretary of Gwaltabi & Yaingangpokpi Road Transport Association Th Jilla Singh said that the Association would stay away from normal passengers service along ImphalUkhrul Road tomorrow in support of the demand for unconditional release of the arrested student leaders.
