Imphal, June 05 2009:
After finalising the tasks of construction, maintenance and repairing of the 160 km long Tamu to Kaliwa road in Myanmar, the 25 Border Road Task Force is set to hand over the road to Myanmar for further maintenance.
The 25 BRTF, stationed at Imphal took up the task of looking after the stretch of road with the objective of promoting bilateral relations between India and Myanmar.
Work on the road stretch started in the late 90s with financial assistance from the Union Ministry of External Affairs, Govt of India.
An official of the BRTF said that their main task was to construct, maintain and repair the road in Myanmar and with the responsibility set to be handed over to the neighbouring country, the BRTF men currently there would be withdrawn possibly during the current fiscal.
On the proposed 10 km fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border, the officer said that all the major processes have been finalised and added that only the clearance certificate from the State Forest Department is being awaited.
Once the clearance is given the task of fencing the border would be taken up by the BRTF, further said the officer.
